Opening Statement:

In order to avoid any confusion about Jikennews.com & Jikennews.info, I decided to write this piece. It is the second time I write something like this. The first Jikennews files involved a lot of what I did not want in my own online community based on expirence I have had on the internet. Out of respect for those individuals, I decided to omit that part of this essay. Jikennews.info started as a love letter for my many friends I have spent my time with online and will finish as such.

I. What was Suicide Circle and how did it negatively impacted the internet?

i.Cult following; Momo and the Blue Whale hoax? Momo is an imaginary urban myth that has been circulating on the internet since (201?) though very recently blew up in the news. Some groups on Facebook seemed it was impuative to scare a whole bunch of parents about the dangers of Momo. A made up internet creepy pastas is now news. I can't wait to hear Norman Bates type of stories on the news. Its all weather and Top Hits Radio up here in Canada.
Blue Whale Game; was it a hoax? The Blue Whale game was a story that came to light after a Russian teenager ended her life. Social Media was to be blamed however the urban legends that resulted from this story we're barely creditable. One thing was certain however; a beautiful young woman's life was put out and carelessness was to blame. But whos carelessness really killed her? The school's staff for not reacting properly? The parent's since they should have known the adversity that their young daughter was facing? The social media ap technicians for not creating a foul-proof a perfect and cost free ap for young people to communicate on? Perhaps the fault laid in the young woman's own actions. She was almost a full adult, she should of known what dangers lies in this ocean of information. I must digress. None of these factors were to blame totally and yet someone's little girl is dead. Somewhere across our own oceans, someone's parents is feeling the loss of an innocent; a hole where there was once a child who was probably once cherished.

ii.Displays of suicidal tendencies online ; internet and social media anxiety

Suicidal tendencies online is nothing new. Just as people have always looked for a way out, a permanent solution to an age old problem was bound to find its way on the internet. The information age has been wonderful to my generations and hopefully will continue to grace us with knowledge and pictures of cats and babies. The internet is just that: a collective cloud of ideas, art, literature as well as a place for people to connect. For those looking for rare and unique forms of art work, its a haven. For those studying and looking for a different take on one of the oldest books in the world, it can be a oasis of biblical hope. For the new author, its a fountain of inspiration. But for those who are hopeless, depressed, angry, or confussed... what kind of a place can the internet be?

Postive side: community who's purpose is to comfort individual in the moment, never judging and always ready to help. Here is another example of tendencies, omitting the suicidal aspect. Youtube had its wild wild west moment more times than I can count. Since its very beginning I loved it for its content around flow arts. Flow arts is another word for manipuating and object around your body to create a mesmerizing and dazzling effect. It's the perfect distraction off the net, can be done almost anywhere. Almost anywhere, as in anywhere you're not afraid of breaking things. I wear glasses so I always had something to break. So searching up Hula Hoops, I came across a video that I sometimes still find myself laughing at. I loved it. My friends loved it. When we went out or met up at school, others thought we were crazy will singing "Hula Hoop" and the content creator's other smash hit "I'm a Banana." I wish my involvement with this creator stopped there because he also posted some very raw, dramatic videos involving his family. Curiousity got the best of me, and I spent quite a lot of time researching what had happened... and ended up falling asleep on a loop of videos from someone, just like me but more brave, who tried his best to explain what he had seen as well. I have to leave certain names out, but if you're thinking of someone right now who matches that desciption you can stop now. Let them wear the shoe if it fits but he wasn't the only one doing it and years after he stopped many people took up his fight. His values were transmitted over to a group of young intelligent beings and they carry that torch proudly.
